my enneagram and my work
What’s Your Enneagram Type? Here’s How Mine Shapes My Work as a Doula
Have you heard of the Enneagram personality types? It’s a personality framework similar to the Myers-Briggs test most of us probably took in school. While Myers-Briggs has its famous letters (like INFJ or ENFP), the Enneagram is an ancient model of personality types with nine distinct categories.
Learning about my Enneagram type has been such a helpful tool in understanding my beliefs and behaviors and how I show up in the world.
My Enneagram type is the Loyal Skeptic.
Okay… sounds…skeptical? (Fitting, I know.) To be honest, I was unsure about the whole thing at first. But as I researched and read into what this type is all about, I started seeing myself.
Some core traits of a Loyal Skeptic include:
Devotion
Courage
Preparedness
Trustworthiness
Team-oriented mindset
Honestly, I’m super happy to embrace these qualities—they resonate deeply with how I approach life.
Okay so how does my Enneagram type show up in my work as a doula? Let me really paint the picture for you:
Devotion
As a doula, I pour my heart into supporting the families I work with. I’m devoted to helping birthing people and their partners feel confident, empowered, and cared for every step of the way. My commitment to you means I’m by your side when you need me, I’m available to discuss concerns or questions, and I’m thinking about and checking in your family as you navigate postpartum. Your birth journey is my priority, and I’ll always show up with 100% dedication.
Courage
Birth can be unpredictable, and it often calls for calm, confident navigation. Whether it’s navigating a challenging labor or holding space for tough emotions, I’m here to be a grounded, courageous presence in the room. (And to be clear, the most courageous person there is the mother, my courage is just to help her find hers when needed).
Preparedness
Yupp, this me. Throughout the time we’re working together, I’m thinking through potential scenarios and how they could be navigated so that you feel fully supported. (This is also why it’s so important to me that you take a good childbirth education class, it’s the best way for you to prepare yourself). During labor, I stay one step ahead, anticipating your needs and offering support to help you feel calm and empowered. Being prepared isn’t just a personality trait—it’s a cornerstone of my work.
Trustworthiness
When you invite me into your birth experience, you’re trusting me with something deeply personal and important. I take that responsibility seriously. My goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space where you feel heard, valued, and understood.
Team-Oriented
As a doula, I work alongside birth partners, nurses, midwives, and OBs to ensure you have a cohesive and supportive team. Collaboration is key to creating a positive birth experience, and I love being part of that process.
The Enneagram has been such a fun and insightful tool for me, both personally and professionally. Understanding my personality type has given me a new perspective on how I show up in my work as a doula.
